New support from the Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation will expand innovative CD64 CAR T-cell therapy research and clinical trials for CMML patients.
June 9th, 2026
Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation CMML Research Fund, supported by a $1.5 million commitment from the Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation. The fund will advance chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) research at the University of ColoradoAnschutz Gates Institute, with initial use focused on supporting the expansion of a clinical trial using CD64 CAR T-cell therapy to treat CMML. This clinical trial is made possible thanks to a major recent milestone for CUAnschutz — U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance to move forward with a first-in-human trial for the campus-developed CD64 CAR T therapy for adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Distributions from this fund may also include operational support to enable treatment of patients with CMML through Gates Institute clinical programs, accelerating the translation of this breakthrough therapy from the laboratory to patient care. The Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation provides support for research into rarediseases, including major funding for Blood Cancer United and the Ehlers-Danlos Society among its other initiatives. We thank the Mike and Sofia Segal Foundation for its visionary investment in advancing clinical innovation andpatient-centered research at CU Anschutz. We are also grateful to AnneMcDonnell from the Office of Advancement for her partnership in bringing this important gift to fruition.
Congratulations to all.
